Newton ISD Art Quilt

Newton ISD Art Quilt, Youth (age 21 or below) Hand Quilting
Newton ISD Art Quilt Best of Division - Hand Quilted - Youth
We, as a group of art students from a small community, have attempted to show the broad range of activities and opportunities provided by our high school of 275 students. We used a method rarely taught in modern schools: quilting.
The fabric and embroidery floss used is 100% cotton, the batting and thread and sublimated pieces are 100% polyester. The size of the finished quilt is 80” tall and 78” wide.
Each block on our quilt represents a school activity in which each of us participate. The activities range from athletics, to music, to career classes, and more in between.
We either replicated the official logo of each club or activity, or we designed our own personal representation. The choice was up to each of us.
A wide range of methods was used to create each quilt square including traditional embroidery or applique’ and more modern technology including sublimation and laser jet printing. Once the blocks were completed, they were sewn together by sewing machine. The quilting was done by hand in the classroom using a traditional wooden frame.
