Curio Stars in the Stream

Curio Stars in the Stream, Machine Quilting
Curio Stars in the Stream Green Ribbon - Adult
I learned to quilt in 2021 after being inspired by my baby sister, who was taught by our Great Aunt Ruth, an incredible woman who splits time between the UK and St. Simon's Island, Georgia. My baby sister Naomi has always been a source of sunshine in my life. I am constantly in awe of her ability to always look on the bright side of life and approach things with a "silver-lining" set of glasses. Earlier this year, she asked me for a pattern idea for her to use up her scraps and I shared one I had just recently saved from Instagram, the Charm Chain Stars pattern from Crinkly Quilts. My sister whipped hers up this spring in a beautiful neutral color palette, perfect for her dorm room at the University of Vermont. In August of this year I decided that I wanted to make my own version, using a "No Scrap Left Behind" fabric bundle I purchased of the Ruby Star Society "Curio" Collection. I joined my first ever virtual quilting bee this year, a group of 12 women from around the US who swap quilt blocks and have become an incredible online quilting community for me. One of our bee members, Annie, is the owner of Little Quilting Closet, an online fabric shop based out of Fort Worth, and she began selling these amazing "No Scrap Left Behind" bundles that are created from the off-cuts after pre-cut bundles are created. The collection is bright, fun and whimsical, exactly the type of adjectives I would use to describe my baby sis. This is one of the first quilts I have made for no other reason than I wanted to make it, and in homage to my lovely sister. The quilt pattern is free and scrap-friendly, making it a great sustainable project. The quilt is long-armed by Nicole Parra, another incredible artist in League City. I named my quilt "Curio Stars in the Stream", a combination of the fabric line, the pattern name, and a song that will forever bond me to fond memories of her - Islands in the Stream.
